Meet Robin! He’s the mycelium mastermind behind

Meet Robin! He’s the mycelium mastermind behind @mrmercysmushrooms in Kaslo, BC!

He started his seasonal, certified organic farm in 2017 and focuses on producing and distributing fresh, gourmet and medicinal wood-loving mushrooms producing varieties like oyster, shiitake, lion’s mane, reishi and more.🍄

Since 2020, Mr. Mercy’s Mushrooms has also been providing spawn and growing supplies to cultivators across Canada, and this spring they joined the BC Eco Seed Co-op as a producer member.

Robin does a lot for his community. Mr. Mercy’s Mushrooms produces and distributes fresh mushrooms exclusively for retailers, restaurants, and individuals around the Kootenays. They have three weekly CSA programs, giving locals the best price on their mushrooms, while giving them a consistent customer base.

“Education is also a big part of what we do, and one of the funnest things about this job,” says Robin. “I’ve been leading workshops on both foraging and cultivation for many years, and since 2023 I’ve been leading a monthly Mushroom Club where participants learn about all things fungi on our farm.”

We’re thrilled that Robin will be speaking at FABx24 this October in Nakusp!

“It can feel really isolating being a rural farmer, and it’s great to have opportunities to connect with other growers and producers and share successes, failures, and new ideas,” says Robin. “It’s also really important to have an event that brings together not just the farmers but also everyone with a stake in local food security in our region (which should be pretty much everyone!). I’m thrilled to be invited to speak at this year’s FABx, and I hope to bring some ideas that can give inspiration to other growers!”

Robin has also been involved with the Kootenay Mushroom Festival since its inception in 2022; which is a fantastic local event that brings together fungiphiles from far and wide. It’s happening in Kaslo on October 12! Tickets are launching soon so please follow them on social media for updates!

Times are tough right now in the Columbia Basin due to the ongoing wildfire situation. Our FABx organizers are being impacted, with one of us currently on evacuation. We know many of our food buyers and producers in the region are impacted as well.

Our hearts go out to everyone during this time. We are a little late getting registration live on the website for FABx24, due to being evacuated. Our apologies. We’re hoping to go live early next week.

One thing we’re sure of is the incredible resiliency of our communities, and we are so uplifted every day by the support we see being offered among residents, local organizations and even complete strangers.

As we prepare to welcome you to FABx24 in Nakusp in October, we can’t help but reflect on last year’s event.

Last November, we continued our tradition of uniting producers, farmers, and buyers within the region, this time in the vibrant setting of Creston, BC, hosted at the Creston Community Complex.

The event was a culmination of new and innovative additions, featuring:
⭐️ Local tours
⭐️ Presentations, workshops and Experts on Tap
⭐️ A Community Soap Box series
⭐️ A newly enhanced sponsorship platform
⭐️ Heartwarming partnerships and collaborations
⭐️ 200-seat farm-to-table dinner within a greenhouse.

Embracing collaborative partnerships, notably with the Yaquan Nukiy tribe, Creston Farms Food Hub, and Buy BC, the expo showcased the strength of Creston's food community. In its fifth year, the Expo reached a milestone by selling out for the first time.
