Terry Fiddick

Black Salt Cafe - Head Chef

Biography

As Chef and co-owner/operator of Black Salt Café, Terry has spent the past 20 years curating one of the culinary icons of the Kootenay region. Through her French training, she fuses inspiration from a diverse range of cultures and experiences. Her influences include palates based in Asia/Pacific-Rim, European techniques and training, and a passion for featuring seasonal local delicacies in her creations. This all began in the 70’s with a young girl crafting multi course gourmet dinner parties for her parents, and lead to her moonlighting at Vancouver’s celebrated Raintree Restaurant, under renowned Chef Rebecca Dawson. She eventually abandoned her career in finance to pursue her dream of becoming a Chef. She met her husband and future business partner, Todd Halfnight, while attending Dubrulle French Culinary Institute in Vancouver, and after years of running a successful catering business, they moved to the Kootenays to build a house, raise a family and create the local gem known as Black Salt Café. As a member of the Simpcw First Nation, Terry is currently on a path of discovery as she explores and learns culinary traditions from her elders and community. She has spent the majority of her life dedicated to the culinary arts, and is delighted to share her passion for food with you.
